Nasyam refers to the clinical administration of specialized Ayurvedic herbal juices, oils, or powders through the nasal passages. In classic Ayurvedic texts, the nose is defined as the "gateway to the head and brain" (*Nasa Hi Shiraso Dvaram*). Toxins accumulated in the sinuses, throat, head, and eyes are mobilized and eliminated using this targeted pathway.
Nasyam balances **Prana Vata** (which controls brain activity and sensory perception) and **Tarpaka Kapha** (which protects neural tissues). It clears congested sinus cavities, relaxes the neck/shoulder muscles, and nourishes the sensory organs above the collarbone.
A gentle massage is performed on the face, forehead, neck, and chest utilizing specific Vata-pacifying oils. This is followed by localized herbal steam application to open up the nasal sinuses and liquefy mucus blockages.
The patient lies down with their head tilted slightly backward. Warm herbal oil (such as Anu Tailam or Shadbindu Tailam) is carefully dropped into each nostril. The patient is instructed to inhale deeply to guide the lipids toward the sinuses, then spit out any oil that reaches the throat.
The patient's soles and palms are massaged. To clear throat congestion and prevent dry sinuses, the patient performs gargling with warm salt water and inhales medicated herbal smoke (Dhumapana).
Nasyam provides profound relief for upper-torso diseases:
Depending on the severity of your symptoms, Nasyam is administered in courses of 7, 14, or 21 days. Dr. Upasana Thakur customizes the herbal oils (e.g. Anu Tailam, Kumkumadi oil, or fresh leaf juice) to match your body.
